You Call This a Storm?

January 4, 2012 --
Lashed atop the Jenny’s mast, in the movie Forrest Gump, paraplegic  “Lieutenant Dan” taunts God through His hurricane winds, “You call this a storm?.......You’ll never sink this boat!”

While not eager to taunt the Almighty, one could say the same about today’s market;  buffeted by the Euro debt crisis, our lingering Great Recession, etcetera, etcetera…….the Dow Jones is hanging in there at 12,418.42 (1/4/12).  You call this a storm?

Similar to Lt. Dan’s seminal moment in the movie, much good is occurring in the investment depths, out of sight and largely untouched by the surface fury.   Earnings and cash are piling up at major US and multi-national companies – whose insiders have been on somewhat of a share buyback, dividend-raising and corporate acquisition binge.  (According to “The Street” Forrest's favorite stock Apple, has $82 billion in cash, just bought Anobit, and is thinking about a special dividend.)

The US job and housing markets may have finally hit bottom.  Banks are re-capitalized.  And best of all, the bond markets are behaving.

Any improvement in Europe’s prospects, or US job or housing growth (witness last month's apartment construction report), and we could be off to the races.  Stocks get cheaper and cheaper as fundamentals improve while the markets are held in check by Euro fears.

Is it time to work cash into this rough surfaced - but fundamentally improving - investment environment?

January 2012 -- For the 3rd year in a row, GW & Wade LLC Counselors have been publicly recognized for outstanding client service by receiving Boston Magazine's 2012 "Five Star Wealth Manager" Awards. Representing the firm this year are
Michael H. Glor, Philip P. Jameson, Robert Bodio, Jr., John Murray, Darren Norton and Gerry Polcari.

No more than 7 percent of the wealth managers in the Boston area were selected. The final 2012 list of "Five Star Wealth Managers" will be published in the February issue of Boston Magazine.

Neil Goldberg, Principal with GW & Wade, commented: "We continue to be immensely proud of our colleagues for receiving this honor each year. It is testimony not only to their high-caliber client service, but also to the firm as a whole. Our professionals serve our clients daily with the same dedication for which these professionals are being recognized."

An independent third-party, Crescendo, presented the Five Star Award to assist consumers in selecting a wealth manager who provides his or her clients with exceptional overall satisfaction, as indicated by other consumers and industry peers. Recipients were asked to evaluate their wealth managers based upon ten objective criteria such as customer service, integrity, knowledge/expertise, communication, value for fee charged, meeting of financial objectives, post-sale service, quality of recommendations, and overall satisfaction.

Five Star award winners do not pay a fee to be included in the research or the final list of award winners. The distinction is not based on sales revenue or assets under management but on how clients and peers have evaluated their experience in working with that individual.

GW & Wade Named One of the
"Best Places to Work in Massachusetts" By the Boston Business Journal

BOSTON, MA (May 9, 2006) -- The Boston Business Journal has named GW & Wade one of the Best Places to Work in Massachusetts in its fourth annual regional awards program.  The honor recognizes the company's achievements in creating a positive work environment that attracts and retains employees through a combination of employee satisfaction, working conditions, and company culture.

Wellesley-based GW & Wade was one of more than 300 companies to qualify for consideration, making the top 20 list in its size category based on the results of employee-satisfaction surveys taken throughout the spring.

"We are very proud to be a winner of this award," said Neil L. Goldberg, Sr. Vice President Business Development.  "The dedication of our entire staff to our clients and to each other is apparent every day at GW & Wade."

George Donnelly, Boston Business Journal editor said, "For the fourth year in a row, our results validate how the creation of the right corporate culture can create powerful business advantages.  Employees are proud to work for companies that are about more than just business."

The survey project itself was launched in January by the Boston Business Journal in conjunction with market research firm QMR, Inc. of Wichita, Kansas.  Companies were evaluated on the results of more than 20,000 employee-satisfaction surveys.  Employees answered questionnaires that addressed such factors as their pride in the company, company encouragement, support and recognition of achievement and relationships with co-workers and supervisors.  The results were analyzed and scored by assigning points to each question.

"Accommodating employees' personal needs pays back dividends of loyalty and productivity," said Boston Business Journal Publisher Michael Olivieri.  "The companies on our list recognize that their commitment to employees is especially important as the economy strengthens and competition for talent continues to grow."

"We strive to be open and innovative," said Neil L. Goldberg, Sr. Vice President Business Development, "and we are proud to be recognized by the area's leading business journal as one of our size category's top 20 Best Places to Work in Massachusetts."
